Meet Rev. Karla Fleshman, LCSW, MDiv (They/She)

Therapist – Speaker Trainer – Advocate

LGBTQ+ folx are at increased risk for experiencing intersectional trauma, including yet not limited to socioeconomic marginalization, racial discrimination, religious abuse and ableism. These compounding trauma exposures can amplify psychological distress and heighten reliance on dissociative coping mechanisms.

*****************************

As a Consultant in Training, I believe EMDR therapy from an integrative approach will cultivate a new pathway illuminating that LGBTQ+ individuals often carry complex trauma from rejection, discrimination, and internalized messages – healing happens when we can process these experiences in a safe enough, affirming therapeutic space.

A Google Review from an Administrator

As an administrator in child welfare, I have come to rely on the clinical expertise of Transitions Delaware, LLC. I have had the organization present several specialized training sessions for our Treatment Foster Care (TFC) staff and families, which I can only describe as transformative for all involved. From challenging our thinking, providing profound insights into supporting LGBTQIA+ youth in foster care settings, and addressing both clinical considerations while offering practical day-to-day support strategies have been invaluable. What truly sets this practice apart is their emphasis on developing genuine compassion and understanding rather than merely following protocols.

I particularly appreciate how they balance professional clinical frameworks with heartfelt discussions affirming youth identities. This holistic approach has helped us create more inclusive, supportive environments where all children feel valued for who they are.

The facilitators create a safe, judgment-free environment where participants feel comfortable asking questions and work through challenging scenarios. Use of personal lived experiences by facilitators only add to the content presented. Information presented upholds our core social work values and ethics; utilizes evidenced based practices and is grounded in cultural sensitivity.

Since implementing their guidance, we have witnessed remarkable improvements in how our foster parents and staff connect with LGBTQIA+ youth. The practiceโ€™s focus on unconditional positive regard and authentic allyship has equipped our team to become better advocates for those we serve and support. I cannot recommend this practice highly enough.
